  1. Police recorded crime data are not designated as National Statistics
  2. The National Crime Recording Standard (NCRS) was introduced in April 2002. The introduction of NCRS led to a rise in recording in year ending March 2003 and, particularly for violent crime, in the following years as forces continued to improve compliance with the new standard.
  3. The Sexual Offences Act 2003, introduced in May 2004, altered the definition and coverage of sexual offences.
